Artist's Statement
Everything old is new again. Every debate is the same debate, every conversation repeated and re-phrased across decades. In 1978, an image of an eye in a keyhole warns your privacy is at stake—a mimeographed poster in the fight for gay legal protections in Seattle. In the fall of 2022, I paint it over and over again. I call my friends, I gossip, I mourn, I stare out my window as my hands shape the reflected eyes. The shroud I have created flows off my table and pools around my feet, the comfort of forebears made manifest.
